GUIDO PRIORI ‘JOURNEY TRIBUTE’ (DEMO CDR)

JOURNEY fans are everywhere, and I also have heard lots of tribute bands to one of the best AOR bands ever, but this Italian tribute to JOURNEY is absolutely stunning! This sounds almost too good to be true, just listen to “Girl can’t help it” and you;re thinking it is the original JOURNEY recording. The production and sound quality is very good, the musicianship is excellent and the lead and harmonyvocals are fantastic. This is one-helluva JOURNEY tribute! Besides the already mentioned “Girl can’t help it”, we can find 10 more JOURNEY covertunes on this demo CDR.
Vocalist is GUIDO PRIORI, who sings very well, although the high pitched vocals of STEVE PERRY are not always easy to sing, but Guido is able to sing the JOURNEY classics without too much problems. Highlights are the versions of “Stone in love” (the guitarsolo at the end is quite impressive, getting close to Neal Schon’s unforgettable solo), “Anyway you want it” (perfect harmonyvocals), “Don’t stop believin’”, “Who’s crying now” and “Girl can’t help it”. Without a doubt, one of the best JOURNEY tributes I have heard so far! More info at: http://gpriorijourneytribute.homestead.com and e-mail at: Pierguid@libero.it

“..Guido recorded a tribute album to Journey with which he gained the approval from the American fan club of Steve Perry,
we might see him soon signing for a label willing to produce this particular kind of tribute being realized by a band and not by a
“motley crue” of different musicians...this demo version of such project is very nice if compared with the short time available to make it!..the final result is pretty good!.. “rating 80-100

JOURNEY TRIBUTE 80%

In the year 2000 the singer and native, Italian guitarist of Milan, Guido Priori decided to yield him homage to one of its bands preferred, to the American Journey and to one of its most maximum exponents in the music, the
singer of said group, Steve Perry.

For it he formed "Sequential" which took some of Journeys better songs first this EP that clearly shows the potential of Priori, not alone in its voice, but also in the sound of the band, which is glimpsed quickly al to listen the recording, that sincerely far away is of being a demo.

But recently Guido has moved on from his tribute to Journey, and is arranged to publish soon one more work that sounds interesting, an AOR CD side by side with   Tommy Denander and Kurt Vereeck in "Frozen Rain".

Guido Priori has that Perry feeling
Guido Priori is an Italian singer who has recorded a tribute to Journey containing 11 classic songs from the Legendary band Journey.
He´s shopping for a deal with the album but you don´t have to wait that long to hear how he sounds like, there are soundclips at his site for you AOR lovers to check out and since I´m a huge fan of Journey myself and have heard 50 Perry clones through the years-I know when someone does a great job and Giudo is one of those really good singer that imitates Perry in an impressive way.

It´s takes a lotta guts to make a tribute to Journey, many have tried and many have failed-I know there are a lot of bands out there doing their tribute stuff to this legendary band like Hugo´s Evolution,Jeremey Hunsicker´s Frontiers and now this 36 year old singer Guido Priori.. Among my favorite Perry clones we find Stephan Kaemmerer on Frontline-Heroes,Jim Jidhed on his latest solo "Full circle",Hugo´s first solo,Steve Augeri on Journey´s Arrival of course and now also Gudio Priori with his tribute!
While the others do their original songs,Guido salutes the band covering 11 songs which 7 are taken from "Escape" and "Raised on radio".I think the band does an okay job performing these classic songs.. Guido has chosen the very classics "Wheel in the sky","Lovin´,touchin´,squeezin´","Anyway you want it" from the early years on this tribute and of those it´s "AYWI" that stands out being a real good version. He focuses on the million selling album ESCAPE singing "Don´t stop believin´","Stone in love","Who´s crying now" and "Open arms"....the big hits as you see and I have nothing to complain about here, nice work lad!
The best part on the album is when Guido does his versions of "Be good to yourself","Girl can´t help it" and "Suzanne" from RAISED ON RADIO-it´s on those songs his voice is the most soundalike-almost scary!
Maybe you think this is an unnecessary tribute trying to sound just like Perry but to me it´s the same way with Valensia´s Queen tribute, they are both a salute to the greatest bands in the world done with a lot of heart and soul...

This record is made by the italian guy Guido Priori and it´s a tribute record to the greatest band in the world. You know that I´m talking about Journey, aren´t you?
It´s very hard, almost impossible to cover Journey´s song and even make it half as good as the original. I´ve heard many bands / projects, some were good, some great but most of them were awful. This however is the best I´ve ever heard.

Guido Priori has an almost identical voice as the man himself, Steve Perry, I´ve said almost because there´s nobody with such a voice.
The only main thing about the voice is that Mr.Priori doesn´t reach up to Perry´s high pitchedvocals that he sings from time to time, besides that it´s almost a copy.

Mr. Priori selected 11 songs on this record, do I have to say that every song is a masterpiece? One thing though that I thought about was that maybe the biggest song of them all, Seperate Ways, wasn´t included, a little strange! But instead he included one of my alltime favourites, Suzanne, a song that Journey sadly never plays live anymore, pleasant surprise! Girl Can´t Help It, Stone In Love and Only The Young are the songs that are best performed,
besides the superb Suzanne.

Every song is superbly performed by musicians quite unknown, at least for me. As the great Journey-fan I am, I of course feel that there´s something missing. The record lacks the power from Neal Schon´s guitar and the magical touch from Jonathan Cain´s fingers, but as I said: You can´t copy the masters fully.

If you should only buy one tribute-record this year, this is THE ONE.
Sadly Mr. Priori doesn´t have a record-contact yet but it´s only a matter of time before he does, in the meantime you can visit his site to hear soundbytes.
Look out for this man in the future!

And to the record-companies: Sign this man!

Keeping the Journey theme going for a minute or two as we visit our next
artist Guido Priori, a gifted singer from Milan in Italy. Guido has sent me
an eleven track tribute to Journey that he has lovingly put together.

At the moment it is only at the demo stage with Guido hoping that a label will
show interest and release his tribute. All the backing tracks have been recorded
by American musicians with Guido supplying all the lead and background
vocals himself. It's at this point that I have to say that Guido has a voice
to die for. His renditions of "Anyway You Want It", "Wheel In The Sky",
"Girl Can't Help It" and "Suzanne" have to be heard to be believed.

His delivery is impeccable and his voice, well, his voice is second only to
Steve Perry himself. As to where Guido goes with this tribute is down to the
labels themselves, but as a vehicle for his talents it must surely get him a
deal. If I were Guido I would get together with some like-minded musicians
and write an albums worth of original material. He has the capability to
become one of AOR's brightest stars and is certainly one to watch. Check him

Be Good To Yourself", "Girl Can't Help It",

Review from HARDSOUNDS website

Bravo Guido, anzi, grazie...

We are Journey's forever fans.

Review from 21st Century Metal
http://www.21stcenturymetal.net/english/demo/guidopriori.htm

One big JOURNEY fan from Milano, Italy, named Guido Priori completed his 'JOURNEY Tribute' album... and it rocks big time!
All the lead vocals are done by Guido himself, but all the instrumental parts were recorded by some unknown musicians in the U.S.A. whom Guido got to know through the web. Guido's sensual, breathy vocal on all these 11 JOURNEY classics does bear a resemblance to Steve Perry's and it sounds really confident. I'm quite sure he has kept singing JOURNEY songs in the past 20 years since his first day with JOURNEY music. Though his voice is not so husky, it is as vibrant as Perry's and adds a great feeling to the songs. Due to the production with less dynamics and depth some lead guitar parts do lack presence in the mix, but the playing itself is stable and it works quite well as a whole. Well done!!!
Guido is currently working with Tommy Denander on their Belgian friend Kurt Vereecke's AOR project called FROZEN RAIN. Now I'm really interested in how he sings on non-JOURNEY numbers ;)

http://www.sleazeroxx.com/bands/priori/journey.shtml

Usually tribute albums contain a handful of artists recording their interpretations of the originals, but in this case we have one man doing more plagiarizing than interpretation. So one has to wonder what the purpose of recording something so similar to the original recordings is. Is Italian Guido Priori paying tribute, or getting his name out there in case Journey is looking for a new front-man in the future? Well if it was up to me, I'd give him the job - as he nails it!
My personal Journey knowledge is limited to the radio hits (and the sight of Steve Perry shedding tears in that "Separate Ways" video), but from the moment I put this in the CD player I wondered if I was accidentally sent Journey's Greatest Hits by mistake. I can't find any fault comparing the hits I know to the versions recorded by Guido, although his accent does poke through occasionally - which didn't bother me at all. But I can't give the vocalist all the credit here - the American session musicians Guido employed have obviously been weaned on Journey themselves.
I'm not sure how necessary this release is, but you have to admire a guy that loves a band so much (even going so far as to say his "life could not be the same without" Journey in the liner notes) that he is willing to stay so true to the originals, and at least he doesn't butcher anything - which is all too common on tribute albums. Journey fans should be impressed with the exceptional execution and musicianship shown here, but a casual fan might be better off getting an actual greatest hits album - or would they? This is an interesting case of one fan recording for people exactly like himself, and for the record he had me singing along in places.
